     Internet Island Topic Post #16.00: "Secrets, Confessions, Opinions, and Comfort"


    16.04: Comfort


    The present heat wave has killed over 130 people in the state of California, more than died in either the Northridge Earthquake or the Fires of 2003. It's pretty hot out here, and it doesn't even seem to cool down at night. The entire Northern Hemisphere seems to be suffering from some form of global warming. What are you doing to combat the harsh weather conditions? How do you cool down, or otherwise try to find comfort this "long hot summer"?

    I AM VERY LUCKY IN THE FACT THAT I DO NOT HAVE TO LEAVE MY BEDROOM TO GO TO WORK.  I AM ALSO LUCKY IN THE FACT THAT I HAVE CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING.  I SMOKE, SO IN ORDER FOR ME TO SMOKE, I HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE AS I DO NOT SMOKE IN MY HOUSE.  I CAN GO OUT AND SMOKE 1/2 A CIGARETTE AND NEXT THING I KNOW, I AM SWEATY AND GROSS FEELING AND NEED A SHOWER.  I HATE THE HEAT.

    I WOULD LOVE TO BE SOMEWHERE LIKE HAWAII ON THE BEACH WITH A NICE BREEZE BLOWING AND WAVES CRASHING.


     I AM SO READY FOR FALL.  I WAS NEVER A WINTER PERSON BEFORE, BUT I WOULD WELCOME IT RIGHT NOW. 


    AT NIGHT, I HAVE BEEN BEATING THE HEAT BY GOING OUTSIDE AND LOOKING AT THE AWESOME HUGE BRIGHT MOON.

  • i swim....=), eat icecream and stay indoors as much as possible

  • Wow. Two weeks ago it was murderous hot here on Long Island. L and I had to leave every day because our house doesn't have AC. We went to the movies a couple of times but mostly we stayed at Borders hours on end. Good thing we both are readers and being there made both of us happy. We hated to go back home. Today was a beautiful day with temps only getting up to 76 degrees. Ooooooooooo, and it's blanket time tonight. Woot!

  • That moon is incredible, isn't it?  It is so gorgeous reflected on the water, too!

    This is Florida in the summer... fortunately, no worse than any other summer!  Comfort from the weather... well, the beach of course!  Hope to be there Sunday a.m.  That is, if I'm a good girl and mow the yard today!

    I just try to stay inside with the ac as much as possible!

  • It's been hot here, too.  So, so hot.  It's been miserable.  The worst thing is that you have to carry on despite the heat.  DoubleD moved back in her new dorm room last Wednesday.  It was 105 and her dorm is not air conditioned.  I'm sick worrying about her in the heat.  Luckily we have had a cool down the last few days. 

  • lots of water and air conditioning is how I get relief from the heat ... sometimes swimming helps too ... I can't wait for the fall ...this summer has been so hot!

  • lovely photos of the moon.  the heat...i just love it, when it gets too terrible (+40 and up) I enjoy the shade and pop my feet into water.  sorry i didn't get to your site earlier and welcome to IIsland. -g
