WELL, WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT MY STATE?
I LIVE IN GEORGIA AND YES WE HAVE TOILETS IN THE HOUSE AND WE WEAR SHOES AND STUFF. WE ARE NOT ALL REDNECKS AND MOST OF US HAVE OUR TEETH AND DRIVE CARS.
WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE IN ATLANTA THAT IS NO WHERE ELSE?
WE ACTUALLY HAVE TWO THINGS.
ONE IS ACTUALLY IN MY HOME TOWN...THAT IS THE BIG CHICKEN...
THE MOUTH OPENS AND SHUTSAND THE EYES ROLL AROUND...
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL ONE, THEY ACTUALLY REBUILT IT SEVERAL YEARS AGO. IT WAS ERECTEDIN 1963 AS JOHNNY REBS CHICKEN, LATERBOUGHT BY KFC.MY FAVORITE THING IN GEORGIA IS
YES IT IS THE VARSITY!!!
OLD PICTURE OF THE VARSITY YEARS AGO!!
The World's Largest Drive-in sits on more than
two acres and can accommodate 600 cars and over
eight hundred people inside. On days of Georgia
Tech football games up to 30,000 people visit The
Varsity. It sells more than two miles of hotdogs
daily, a ton of onion rings, 2500 pounds of fresh
cut potatoes, 5000 homemade fried pies, and
300 gallons of chili, all of which are made from
scratch daily. The downtown Varsity is
also the world's largest single outlet for Coca-Cola.

This is where the now famous cry of
The Varsity started "What'll Ya Have"

Car Hops!
Identifying cars by number has always been
an integral part of the Varsity Drive-In
system. "Curb men" would sing and dance
their way to fame. The most famous of
our car hops was a man named Flossy Mae,
who sang the menu to customers for over
50 years. Well known TV and Movie star
Nipsy Russell also got his start
at The Varsity as car hop #46.
ANYWAY, I WILL ALWAYS BE A GEORGIA
BULLDOG FAN, I AM NOT A YELLOWJACKET
FAN AT ALL, BUT THOSE YELLOWJACKET
DOGS ARE TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!
AS FAR AS MOLDING MY CHARACTER....I HONESTLY
HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT HAS MOLDED MY CHARACTER,
OTHER THAN MY LOVE FOR GREASY ONION RINGS AND
YELLOW JACKET DOGS!!!

Very interesting piece of architecture!
@PrincessFiveandDime -
that it is, we all use it around here as a landmark when giving directions, all directions begin with "you go to the big chicken......" hahahaha!!
Thanks for your comment. Nice pictures on your site. I lived in Savannah for 15 years. In Tennessee now. Cheers!
What a sweet entry! I love reading and seeing other Xanga folks hometowns.
My niece went to school in Savannah but about 1.5 years but I never got a chance to visit her while she was there.
The Varsity looks SO cool. I love those retro places. I wish I could go back in time for just one day and see how things were "in the olden" days. =)
HEY, how did you like Big Brother. Tell me you watched it last night, right?!
